cichla fogo

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I presume the river systems are protected for a reason. I find it pretty irresponsible to want to fly out there and illegally take fish from the wild.

Ok I will bite.......

There located in a protected area under heavy conservation and basicly is a wild life refuge through this whole river sysytem. You can catch them all day in this area called the Sao' Benidito River system. I have memorized this location by heart and it is located a whole lot more south then on the map indicated above. Though there may also be some Fogo in the area listed on the map above but I am not familiar with those location's as being the location of the "Fire Cichla:". Ok I have shared enough good luck with your search we all have been looking and waiting for more information about this coveted cichla. (SOME OF US LONGER THEN OTHERS). There is a fishing lodge that is located on the banks of this river system that offers catch and eat but no export. I have been told just to get there is a challange all by itself.

Hint: Look into some of the old timers thread's. Let's just call them the PRIMES they have a lot of information they have learned over the years and from time 2 time they do share information. GL.

That was hardly a lecture. No I'm not a commercial fisherman but we all know how many fish species are endangered due to over fishing.

If people with your attitude were allowed to collect the fogo for the aquarium trade I'm sure it wouldn't be long before they went the same way as dat pulcher or Asian arowanas.

I happen to appreciate wildlife wether it's in my tanks or in the wild so don't make me out the bad guy or a spoil sport.

So know I am more interested in the story of how you successfully brought back a fogo, than actually having a fogo. This has Indiana Cichla written all over it. Sean Connery and his son, Indiana Cichla, avoid the South American Headhunters barely escaping on their sea plane as spears fly past their collection bags.....only to land and be boarded by no other than....... customs. The fines fly and the Fire cichla land on the dinner table of said customs agent. sad face..........lol

Yea I only know of one person that owns Fogo and he hasn't posted for some time now. But he is around still. :D
Is this person's identity a secret?:naughty:

If youd search on the forum a bit, its not that hard to find who it is ;)

They are in Rio Sao Benedito, and the Lodge is Thaimacu -

Cichla out of Brazil are Illegal, period. Fogo are in a conservancy area....its all mandatory catch and release.

The map posted earlier in the thread is a ways off. As for the Fogo. You're not the first nor last to consider a trip down and smuggling some out. However, there are many with very good connections and means to do so, and have yet to ...Must be a reason, or reasons. Getting rammed in a Brasilian Jail over fish is probably one ;)
