This one is questionable.

He was saying that the spots on the rear part of the DORSAL fin do not really mean anything for species ID. You just misread him.

You're probably right that I misread him. But, you can't really rule out the theory that it also can help ID bass. IE cichla pleiozona's. But, that's a bar not a spot.....

The spot that you are referring to is on the caudal peduncle, not the dorsal fin.
