7hrs shouldnt be hard to keep it alive.. .thick bags, heat pack, some tranquilizer type of thing, pure oxy, styro box..... BUT , the problem is, do you really think the airline will let you just bring a box of fish on board?

live animals are kept in the cargo hold and cost a little extra but add heat packs and pay the price and you should be fine

ive already done it.
didnt pay extra or anything.

ive brought back two fishes so far,
one azul i brought back from america (my dad actually),without a heat pack or anything.
i think james added ammoclear(spelling...),thats it.
and in a thick box, around 2 inches thick.
fish survived but was really really cold.
around 18 degrees celcius.
the flight was 18 hours, about 24 hours with all the transport time and stuff.

another, was an armatus(and we all know how hard these guys ship...),from hong kong.
the fish arrived very good looking, again no heat pack or oxygen tablet.
and it wasnt a very thick box either.
the temperature doesnt go down very fast,it was a 4 hours flight.
almost 8 hours including everything else.
when it arrived temperature was still over 23 degrees celcius.

if xander wants of course,i can get heat packs and i already have oxygen tablets.
i just forgot to bring them last time round.

i want to get an azul back from overseas, what do you think it's chances are of survival or a 4hr flight, total 7hr journey. the fish will likely be 8". no special packing just triple bagging and styrofoam box with fragile sign on the luggage. (fish will not be shipped back professionally, just put into my-or rather, channarox's luggage). what'd you guys think? worth risking over $400 over? no live arrival guaranteed.

Azul is pretty hardy fish. You need to oxygen the bag, though.

i thought it'd be stricter too!
but so far even when i declare, they dont really check at all.
just say i have a fish.

They might charge something now, considering a checked bag is usually $15+ with most airlines these days, but usually with overseas travel, you pay so much for the ticket to begin with, your bags still fly free.

I have a friend going to china for a week in Janurary for business. He usually brings me back a fake watch or two, perhaps I'll have him bring me back a fake fish or two, hahahaha.

yeah well, the problem,or not so problem,is that they dont check at all.:nilly:
all i gotta do is make sure i paid enough for the weight.LOL

I'm totally gonna have my buddy bring back a goldfish or something, just to see how it goes. He goes to Hong Kong about 3 times a year, but its around a 13 hour flight, plus a layover in San Francisco which will make it around 20 hours. So I'll have him try a cheap fish to see how it does before I import something radical.
