Colors are hard for many reasons.. As most of the species can show bluw tints on the fins.. Monoculus show this color often. I would wait til the fish is around 6-10" to denote the colors.. as even then they will still continue to change ;0

this is a very true statement!

I have a question at what stage does the rosets begin to show it there development? And is it not always a visiable trait?

1. you will start to see them form @ 5-7inches with body spangling...
2. its a visable trait @ that stage through maturity....;)

yes, i would say around 3 inches or so, some orinos start to get 4 dots around their oceli while other start to form circles also know as oceli. another key trait to i.d.ing orinos are when they are around 3-4+ inches you will notice that their bars will not be so symmetrical as a monoculus. some sp. of orinos will be forming diamond shapes but this is not the case with every orino. for the other sp. that doesnt they will most likely still have bars but they are diff then monoculus. an example .... mono ... ll ... orino ... {{ it doesnt necessarily have to be that shaped, but what i am trying to say is it will be more swiggled and not as perfect. if anyone here owns some monos you will know that the outter part of their bars are pin straight like an arrow!

another trait is usually the last oceli closest to the tail will be separated or almost separated and the shape will be more of a round circle.

monos also get dark black shaded areas and other patterns around their vertical bars while i am yet to ever see an orino develop any extra markings besides their 3 bars/diamond or oceli, their cheek markings and some spots on the flanks right before their tail.
