Cichla Questions.

Your a moron. Go else where. I dont think any of us true cichla guys have anything less than a 200g. A ton have much bigger than that. When a guy says he has a 180g for a growout he means..once they hit 10-12" or so they will go into a bigger tank.

Take your little 125g and piss poor attitude somewhere else. Sounds like you need some girly fish like discus.

RIGHT!?!? I'm damn offended he's saying we shouldn't have cichlas. Many have 300+ (myself included). I have a 60gal growout and that's for 1 cichla! Lol.

OP. You need a bigger tank PERIOD. U can use ur 125 for a grow out that's it.

Very nice reply. glad to see some mature answers on this thread :) Actually I love discus. beautiful fish. And I have seen MANY threads and MOST of them don't have 2 cichlas in a 300 gallon tank... I was asking a question. Grow up kiddo.

We were giving you mature answers before u tried to say EVERY single person on this forum shouldn't own cichla. I personally took offense to that.

I believe you started the accusations. One shouldnt assume should they. Or maybe you should listen rather than act like the little kid. "Ahhh cmon mom, I swear I'll take care of it". Thats how I pictured you when you were told your 125g was too small for cichla. So dont go calling me a kid when you are the one acting childish.

So let's say I obtain a pair of 2 cichlas. (that's what im looking to get) The aquarium store i work at can get them at like 2-3 inches. How long will they be able to stay in the 125 for until an upgrade is needed?

Just to expand a bit on the answers above, you can expect virtually all Cichla species to attain a size of 20-24". An 18" wide tank just won't cut it for the life of the fish. That being said, they are amazing fish to own- you just need to bump up the tank size if you're planning on keeping them to maturity.

Yeah thank you for that "mature" answer lol

I was mainly referring to what the others were saying. And I summed up ur question to one simple word. Why would I re-type what the previous posters say?

You can keep the smaller cichlas such as kelberis and orinos which grow slower in a 125 for a year or two. I wouldnt keep more than 2, but eventually you will need at least a tank with a 24" depth.

Keep a few and see how much you like them before investing in bigger tanks. There are some cichla guys that keep theirs for a long time exceeding 15", but the majority sell/trade them off before then.

A 125g is a good start for grow outs.

YOu have your real answers. Let me put it in caps so you can read it.

YOUR 125G IS TOO SMALL TO KEEP CICHLA FOR LIFE.

Now you go else where!
