Cichla with a WHITE EYE HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
never do water changes and change filter media at the same time.. you may get an ammonia spike..

that is really a white eye... similar looking diseases are caused from high nitrates... you need to do a large water change.. like 50-60 percent and then everyday do a smaller 15 percent water change each day until your water parameters are back in check... i don't recommend any chemicals but someone else my say melafix .. if you do use it then i recommend half the dosage. also make sure he eats well but i don't know if you can save that eye.

quarintine tank would be best...then bump up temp to 88 then salt and lots of water changes

i would do a much larger water change.. like 50% and i would add salt and i would clean out the filter media.. ASAP. actually, not in that order.. filter media first, water change second, salt last.

and i would do the water change and salt every day or every other day until the fish recovers. or at least heals.. usually once their eyes get that bad they are too far gone and they will be blind in that eye.

I didnt... He looked really bad though... This is what blows my mind..... I get up every morning and feed my fish about 0445.... They all looked fine.... I come home eat and at 1645 my LSN is dead, and my most colorful beautiful has a white eye.... I dont understand.... I know the 4 line pim i have has been chasing the LSN, but i didnt think it would kill him. Plus the pleco ate on him also.... SO he looked really bad...

On another note, Should i Do the water changes even though im adding melafix? Thanks

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I would continue the water changes, and just add a little melafix after the wc to make sure you didn't remove most of it.

Did the pleco mess with your LSN while it was still alive? (LSN means lima shovelnose cat right?) Or just after it was dead?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

That looks to me as more than just a reaction to poor water quality. Is that a large bolder you have in there?!? Especially in the last 3 pictures you can see that the rock is a little jagged. The bottom left of the eye looks like it's drooping. I really hope I am wrong and it won't loose the eye, but it looks to me like a nasty scratch on the film.

Here's something to read if you want

Same steps, just a little more serious. Depending on how deep, long the injury is the fish might or might not loose the eye. Sorry for being so vague, but the steps are the same: salt, meds and water changes. That's all you can do, it's just that I couldn't recognize it as a disease, or as the result of poor water quality. When I saw the bolder, my first thought was "scratch".

Keep us posted, and make sure your water is pristine.
