Cichlas in Ponds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After doing quick research on a Azul I've noticed they seem to be very rare lol, I mostly just want to get this pond started before I stock.

the bigger the better!!!
id do no smaller than 5x5x2 providing how much space you have for the pond.

I have no idea how many gallons that would be

Yep definitely rare, which is why if you got them to breed you would have a financial boom in your future lol, I understand if you don't want to I was just throwing that out there. But yeah 5x5x2 would be a good minimum but as always bigger is better. All depends on how much space you have to work with

I was thinking of starting off with a 100G pond. The Peacocks I catch vary in appearance and only recently have I learned to ID them and I've caught multiple Butterflys and Royals.

for 2 breeding pairs i would say minimum 500 gallons. especially if they are all around the 12" mark

try to go as large as you can id say 700 minimum since the glory of the pond is that you can larer without much difference in price compared to large ammounts of glass.

and for reference a 5x5x2 would be 375 gallons
6x5x2 would be 450 gallons
6x6x2 would be 540 gallons
6x6x3 would be 810 gallons

If you want to try species other than mono and mono/occel hybrids i would suggest a pond of 1000 gallons+ covered by a green house to help keep temps up in the winter. COuld be a very cool project.

Unfortunately my wallet wasn't as big as my eyes.
I did see a nice 110G for $50 for sale, I was planning on starting off with some Koi since I've NEVER done ponds before.
So I'll start off with that and see how it goes on from there, I'll make sure to let you guys know first ;)

Thanks for all the tips,
Justin
