Cichlid for a 29?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Firemouth's would work, but Salvini would be my choice.

I would love to keep salvini I had no idea I could keep them in this size tank but I was reading and they usually don't get too much bigger than 6inches!!! As for keyholes, I would prefer central american cichlds they just have a little more spunk if you know what I mean. Plus I've kept a good bit of SA cichlids. So lets say I do salvinis, should I add anything with them or just do the pair. In other words could I add fast dithers?

I would go with some kind of cryptoheroes other than convicts. Honduran red points would be cool. Firemouths I think would be okay, but I would try a different Thorichtys sub-species. If your interested in something a little less aggressive you could try rams or apistos

they are not rare or anything, but some rainbow cichlids would be pretty cool, and there are some color varieties that are very attractive

WOw alot more options than I thaught! Okay the only member of the convict family I would want are honduran red points but hnestly I want to stay away from anything and everythign convict related. Rainbows, salvinis, and maybe honduran red points sound really good.

I have been searching everywhere to find a perfect replacement for my community tank and now im looking at central american cichlids. SO I have been looking at getting a pair of central american cichlids for my tank. I don't want anything super common like convicts that are worth like dirt :grinno:. SO I have been considering firemouths. I was wondering if firemouths would be okay as a pair in a 29? Are there any other central american cichlids I could keep in this size setup? What can I keep with them? I was thinking a fast moving tetra and some corys. Any suggestions?

all very cool choices; I think Rainbows are the best fit, and then Firemouths; I think 29G is to small for Salvinis, but someone did say it worked, so maybe it could

you could also consider the smaller acaras (laetacara curviceps and dorsigera) which are peaceful and colorful, or Rams, or the gymnogeophagus species, which are basically small (3-4") versions of the earth-eater type fish

I picked up some rainbows about 2 months ago, I'd highly recommend them. They have amazing active personalities and they really live up to their names of rainbows. I've already seen my guys in white, light blue, yellow, gold, and bronze. They're amazing to watch.
