I’ll agree with it being some kind of Oreochromis as the pattern on the tail I’ll usually see on tilapia. To me it looks similar to Oreochromis urolepis as the pattern is similar. But I’m no cichlid specialist.

There are bout 100 species of Tilapines, and many look similar so determining which is which without a known collection location, is rather difficult, and as Gourami Swami said, they easily hybridize, which muddies the waters even more

Here in Panama, fish that people in the US usually think of only as aquarium fish, are all thought of as food.
Cichlids like Vieja , Parachromis, feral Oscars and P Bass, and many catfish are all eaten (as long as they're big enough).
