rare? Well I guess that depends on where you live ... but "Cichlasoma" beani or "Cichlasoma" ornatum .. which get about 10" btw ...

Underappreciated? Laetacara curviceps hands down.

emperor is the largest african and cichla the peacock bass are the largest american cichlid

i would say that Cichlasoma ornatum would be the rareist american cichlid

they are not common in general, especially in fish stores, but anyone who wants one can easily find some online.

a friend of mine is getting his hands on some in the next few weeks.

The shell dwellers do look pretty cool! I have never payed any attention to them at all. They just defend a shell like its a nest?
