No problem. If u want more you could always upgrade and the bigger tank can have a bigger stock . Or you could have one extra large fish either is your choice. But not much can go in a 40 gal

I like fish that are less common so if I was in your position I would buy a group of smaller growing herichthys like bartoni, pantostictus, tamasopoensis etc... let them grow out together and form a pair.
