Personally I wouldn't do an oscar, but from my experience you have other options beside smaller fish or more angels. Fish I've kept with angels include severums, the milder geo types, satanoperca, mesonauta, discus, I've even had them with a gold edged green terror (depends on the individual and may not always work, but captive bred individuals I've had have been quite tolerant-- not that I'd do it myself, but I even saw one with discus once and the discus were fine), guianacara (not that they're big, but they work ime). The list goes on, really. With some combinations you can't 100% guarantee it and it's just something you'd have to try. It can depend on the individual fish, size of your angelfish, etc. But then you could also say that about angelfish, some are more aggressive than others.

I personally would choose a severum. I've kept a few Green and they've always been great. There are some beautiful ones like Super Red and Rokteil, my 2 favorite.

If your looking for something mean to live in it for life, try a Grammodes (the mini Dovii) very slow growing, mean as hell a little reclusive but a beautiful fish. max out at 10" - 12" might take 2+ years to get there.

Edit: He'll shred your angels so best move them out if you where to go down that road.

Keep in mind some fish being recommended like severums eat plants. You didn't say whether your angel tank is planted, but SA community tanks usually are.
Good point in that it would apply to severums, although for years my SA tanks are primarily driftwood, sometimes leaf litter, and I've also had anubias at times.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Tank is semi planted so i dont think a severum would work. I think im gonna add some of my bolivian rams from my 55g and get a blue acara. Acara and rams will work yeh?

Acaras and Angels will, not sure about Acaras and rams......maybe if you have adults or pairs of Rams and the Acaras are smaller....a breeding pair of Rams wouldn't take no guff, but idk about loners vs. most Acaras. If you do, I don't think I would keep Blues or EBAs on my list. Maybe Yellows or Ports or smaller. Heckel's can get nasty I've heard too. Angels are just so much bigger and have a more menacing appearance than Rams...Rams have attitude but get screwed if someone calls their bluff cuz they really are NOT fighting fish....and the fish they CAN stand up to are all built lighter-bodied or simply don't have territorial issues. Angels, Yes, Rams, No.

Only way I could see it work for Angels/Acaras/Rams is possibly a tank of all one sex.......IMO, female better.
