Cut some pvc down to the size and shape you like. Take some of your substrate and dry it out completely. Once the substrate is dry then coat the pvc cave in silicone and cover it in the dried sand/gravel. Let sit for a week or so to let the silicone dry. Voila...a DIY cave that matches your decor perfectly.

I've seen people use glasswear as well.. You can get small candle holders etc..some square stackable ones.. things of that nature at the dollar store.. I've tried it and my Africans got fairly confused.. a couple of them enjoyed it.. it really depended on the fish. The perk is you can SEE the fish when they're in there.. I think the big downside is the fish can see out, but if you got tinted glass it might work better as I tried it with completely clear.
