Well, Bruiser shot down my plans of adding a less agressive tankmates (pictus cats) now i'm looking for a new option. I was thinking convicts or firemouths (only males). Any Ideas. The tank is a 75gal. so i don't believe space would be a problem for Bruiser and 2 males of one of the listed species. Right now Bruiser is 5 inches long and growing at a pretty good clip.
If anyone has any other ideas, i'm more than open. I'm not wanting to go with barbs, they bore me.

As long as the fish are close to the size of your JD, it shouldn't be a problem. You can get a male con and FM. Just make sure there is lots of hiding places so that when aggression breaks out in your tank, the fish getting picked on can hide.

Yeh, finding 4-5 inch firemouths might be a problem, but convicts of at least a couple inches should be able to hold thier own right? What about Salvini?

i think you would have better luck with a salvini holding his own than a FM, also since your JD is used to having the tank to himself you will want to divide the new fish until they are more settled in so they have at least a fighting chance or he is going to beat them up and stress them out before they have a chance to settle

I agree, if your new FM liplocks with your JD I don't like the firemouth's chances...they stand up for themselves but they don't back it up all that well.

Yeh, well the JD isn't too established in the new home himself since he's only been in there about a week. It's basically set up exactly like the 55gal was, but there is more front to back swimming room. So Salvini or Convict... any other suggestions?

I liked the Salvini and Convict idea too . . . nothing wrong with Firemouth either, but the first two are probably safer bets . . .

I'll never have an oscar in anything less than a 90. I use to keep oscars when i had room for a larger tank, and they just get too big. No matter what people say about one in a 55 being okay, after having one that got to be 15 inches even a 75 gal tank seems small.
