cichlids eating my newbies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is it just my eye, or was that oscar in pretty poor condition even before he got beaten up? Belly looks pretty hollow

Anyway.. like the guys say, your fish just aren't compatible so decide what sort of tank you want to have and just keep those.

The Africans are cool, but they are pretty mean. Really limits you to other Africans and some big armour plated plecos.

If you want a wider range of fish then you can go for the South Americans, the oscar, plecos are fine with most other sane fish. Bala sharks aren't from SA, but will live happily with those species.

Pufferfish are pretty much in a class of their own.. They will eat anything then can. Only reason yours hasn't is cos it's still small.

Cant comment on the prices except they seem pretty steep, but anybody that told you those fish could live together doesn't deserve your business.

Cheers

Ian

yuh IANAB i don't plan on going back to the place again... they do get all the good stuff but i called and was like i need to bring these fish back your salesman told me that the fish i purchased would be fine in my setup even after the fact i showed him pictures of the fish that were currently in the tank. In my area the new fish come in on tuesdays, i went there and brought the oscar, bala,2 crabs and puffer all the other fish came with the tank when i brought it. i wouldn't lie to you when i said i spent the money i did on the 2 i tried to call them just to take it back for free when the fish started biting his fins up.

Well, for future reference, Puffers usually live alone, they tend to take out everything they can, any chance they get.

Id get rid of everything you purchased, and read up on african cichlids.

Your going to have to separate because i just made the same found baby albino oscar on bottom of tank chewed up i was pissed i dunno who the culprit is yet i have suspect tho.

Concave. It does look hollow.

Problem is the 75g cannot handle a small group of balas. One alone may not be quite happy compared to a group.

Aren't small crabs the natural diet of puffer fish
They are. Invertebrates and puffers=incompatible

i cant believe you bought that oscar for $55! i can get a 12 inch one for $25

i think you either need to stick with just african cichlids or just South/Central American cichlids. Putting the two together is a bad mix
