hello

I need som advice on what to put in my 130 gallon tank with the measurements 48x26x26.

Id like to see some breeding beahavior so therefor I'm going to get two pairs of convicts. I'd like to have two pairs since I think it will be fun to see the pairs interacting with each other.

After the convicts though I'm not so sure what to get... Amphilophus lyonsi and Parachromis friedrichstalii are the species I have been thinking about.

I do realize that a pair of jags, midas, RDs and trimacs get to big and/or are to aggressive to have in a tank like mine. Viejas have never been my cup of tea, and neither have JDs or Texas cichlids.

So in conclusion: which CA species (a pair) would be best suited with two pairs of convicts in my 48x26x26 tank?

well... Ive kept both firemouths and JDs earlier. The firemouths where little wusses and the JDs dug like crazy... Ye I know, CA cichlids dig alot, but the JDs where just insane...

So none of those suggestions feel good to me, thx for answearing though:)

Keep something exotic, why do you want convicts so bad? because they breed like there is no tomorro?

Add some festae, when they breed you will get MONEY for the fry. AND THEYRE COLORFUL!

Convict breeding just makes good feeders.

Maybe order some honduran Redpoints, instead of convicts!!! Same behavior, basically same fish, just nicer! might be able to sell them too better then regular cons.

I'd like to keep more then just 2 big fishies in the tank. Although it is tempting, I know from experience that I will get bored.

But sure, maybe I'll get hundurian redpoint or some other little fish closely related to convicts. Depends on what I can find. The point is, I would like to keep more the then two fish in the tank.

So what exactly are you looking for? Just breeding fish??? And more then 2 pairs of fish?

Pair of the following...HRP's, Festae's, Con's, maybe add some (4)Clown loaches to clean the bottom, and add color.

So about 8 fish

Add a nice shoal of Clown Loaches. 10-15, be the next Ewurm!

Well thats sounds like a pretty sweet mix:)

Yes, I like fish who breeds:P not to make money, I just think its interesting to watch.
However, two questions:

1.Doesnt festae get to big for my tank? its 130 gallons, but still only 48" long...

2. If the festae are breeding, won't they kick the s*** out of the cons and HRP?

thx for the answears:)

Basically this is simple...

If you are breeding almost any species fish, when they are about to breed, breeding, and tending to the brood....THE FISH WILL BE AGGRESSIVE to WHOEVER POSES a THREAT to THEM AND THEIR BABIES. (Not alwayyyyys true tho)

Fish get pretty aggressive when they breed, and usually you realize it when its too late and you either have a beat up fish, or a dead one.

Festae Grow kinda slow tho i think, but can get around 10".(Male)

MY convicts are VERY VERY aggressive when they breed, my 2 inch female beats up a 6.5" Male JD and his partner.
