I am new to the fish hobby and just about done cycling my new 20 gallon long tank...My question is how many Central and South American Cichlids can i put in this 20 Gallon Long tank and which ones would get along? I plan on buying them small like 1 to 1.5 inches

u could do a pair of kirbs or a pair of rams thats it for Central and South American Cichlids...

South American cichlids give you lots of choices:

One of the dozen or so commonly available Apistogramma species.
A pair of blue rams.
A pair of Laetacara curviceps.
A pair of Golden Eye dwarfs (Nannacara anomala)

And if you want to play with the water chemistry, that opens up a whole lot more dwarves such as Bioteocus, Taeniacara, and Dicrossus species as well as even more apistos.

For west african, the only three krib species I'd try in a twenty long are Pelvicachromis rollofi, P. taeniatus, or P. subocellatus. But there are other options like Buffaloheads or dwarf jewels.

Thank you all, I didnt know kribs were African so i am going to leave those alone...this will be a Central and South American tank...i would do Peacocks if I was going to do an African tank...I apprecite all the feedback tho thank you very much...Blue rams might just do it for me

Look into honduran red points

5 Star Generals would get way too large. Check out Anomalochromis thomasi though, a dwarf jewel with a very similiar pattern.

For centrals, I'd probably only go HRP or rainbows in a 20 long. Everyone else might get too testy.
