Cichlids with Cichla?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have Crenicichla and a Bocourti Cichlid living with my Cichla at the moment with no issues. The Jag I had was dominent but didnt show any really aggression. Blood parrots are out of the question Im not a fan of hybrids.

I think you missed a '0' in there. ;)

After recently losing my old 14" male Jaguar Cichlid. Ive decided to try something new with my Bass.
I will buy a 2" youngster and grow it on with my Cichla growouts.

There are 2 Cichlids im looking at: Dovii and Umbee

Are there any success storys of these mixing with Cichla, or am I just looking for trouble?

Jags have bad reputations but I never had any problems!

Cheers Jay

Bizzarre mate, you are thinking exactly the same as me. I asked ross if he was bringing any Umbee in on the order but he is not. Id love another Dovii I have always regretted getting rid of the one I had.

I have seen Dovii in with cichla occasionally but not seem umbee myself. Both are obviously aggressive. I was going to go for Umbee as they are SA but Im seriously tempted to try another Dovii.

Dont know what to do mate. Ive seen Ross has 1.5" Dovii so I may get one to try out. Really wanted an Umbee though to be honest.

My friend has a monster Jag, and a bunch of other mean cichlids with his cichla.. It's ok for now until the cichlids get out grown. High City Ryder is also another member here that has kept cichlids and cichla together.

yes ross has dovii so i may pick one up next weekend. I think Umbee are prob more aggresive than dovii. I got rid of my last dovii at about 12" and it was in with an oscar and various other largish fish with no issues

I think I would do another jag. Jag you can have the best chance of getting a mellow fish. Dovii and umbee will more than likely end up with dead pbass. You just have to remember dovii at 12" usually dont have adult temper yet. Ive also see umbee kept in a 1000 gallon and still did not play well with others. P bass cant defend themselves against those bruisers.
