Cichlids with Cichla?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I would do another jag. Jag you can have the best chance of getting a mellow fish. Dovii and umbee will more than likely end up with dead pbass. You just have to remember dovii at 12" usually dont have adult temper yet. Ive also see umbee kept in a 1000 gallon and still did not play well with others. P bass cant defend themselves against those bruisers.

Ive had quite a few jags and all did well in community, they all acted like oscars. My current one is however very aggressive. Ive had 6 total and only 1 too aggressive so those are good odds. All dovii I have are too aggressive for tankmates. Umbee = same as dovii just usually stay chill a little longer.

Thanks mate

All I can say is every umbee I had was a nasty SOB and I'm sure would have destroyed any cichlas if given the chance.

I think oscars , or any geophagus like altifrons or surinamensis would be fine.

A carpintis , or maybe a dempsey.

Dovii and umbee , no way. Too nasty

Give it a shot, maybe not with expensive cichla at first but try a 2 inch dovii 2 inch umbee and a couple 2 inch-3 inch mono's or ocells.... all goes well and you start mixing in the expensive cichla...it doesn't.... well then it doesn't!

Good luck and keep us updated... dovii umbee cichla combo sounds bad ass to me.

I think if we think about this realistically instead of merely commenting on the reputation a fish has then we will likely conclude that if he is growing the cichlid out from small and introduces it to his large group of cichla around the 8" size it won't pose any threat at that point.

At the point that aggression arises to a serious level (if it does) he then can move the fish on - it's hardly going to massacre the tank over night when first introduced.

He's not purchasing a 16" specimen after all.

Personally, i say go for the Dovii :P
