Cichlids you hate!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LOL at saying severums are common., I guess if you are shopping at mom and pop stores. There are a lot of varieties out there.

I find the following boring/ugly:
Mbuna
Blood parrots

OK here's my list:
-like everyone else Blood Parrots too much deformity
-Flowerhorns not a fan of big cooks or lumps on the head
-Cichla, Dovii, Bluegil or any other common looking fish, specially big common looking fish or silver/gray/drab color fish, looks like smth u would fish out and not very decorative to keep in the tank.
Also not a fan of fish that have to be kept alone in the tank, specially that need huge tanks.
It just seems like a waste of space and work just to end up with one fish in the tank.

It's OK when your fish is a betta splendens in a small tank. It's when you need to dedicate your 200 or 300 gal to one aggressive and or highly predatory fish that I wonder about this aspect myself.

Some people are really into the whole one tank show fish that exudes dominance. I personally can't enjoy watching that one fish swim around a tank that is mostly empty.

YEP!!!...Now if healthy and non deformed ones were bred, I would stop hating them. I'm glad some breeders seem to be making an effort in this direction.

Wow! Now I might consider a new and improved BP! If I could take the BP's color & temperament and a Convict's Body shape, It would be the perfect small cichlid.

Yea exactly I wouldn't mind dedicating a 10 or 20 gal tank to one fish be it B. Splendens or smth else for that size tank, but like u said huge tank for just one fish not my thing. Heck I'd do a bunch of 10 gal tanks with one fish, I can have more fish too look at and less space, time and work consuming then having a single huge tank with one fish in it. I also enjoy more watching fish in a comunity interacting with eachother.
