Cichlids you hate!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I still don't hate them but I won't ever have angelfish again. Tried it twice, just not my fish perosnality I guess, too needy, shy, and quiet for me.

The closest thing to hating a fish would be dyed or tattooed fish, even though it's not the fish's fault..

I don't see why I can't hate deformed hybrid parrots on the basis of their bent spines and mouth. I don't see how me buying/adopting such a fish would change my mind in this case.

Agree... You can hate any fish you want to hate.

Because they are so high maintenance. I used to give mine weekly water changes, sometimes more, all kinds of special foods and they'd still get thin and needy. Sometimes they even got hole in the head despite all the special care they got. I wish I never nursed them back from dropsy. I can hardly stand looking at them now and wouldn't take one of them for free. I don't understand how anyone can stand these fish. I call it "spoiled brat syndrome" now.

Never knew that Wow. How aggressive are they?

Hybrids are a different because u can hate the thought of mix breeding in fish. But for normal fish I think if u never owned it how do u know u would hate it.

The idea of hybrids isn't the problem for me. Just the blood parrot to me looks mutated. The part I hate about hybrids isn't the fish itself, rather the fact that they are given to fish stores who then dilute the true fish ruining its beauty for everyone.

Owning any of the fish i have listed is not going to change my opinion on them. I don't like the look of any of them, so no ammount of personality is going to make up for the fact that i just don't want to look at them. I don't believe any of us keep fish soley on looks, but liking the look of the fish you keep is certainly a big part of keeping them.

So on that basis i hate the looks of the fish i listed.

If I had to explicitly pick cichlids I don't like, it would dovii or umbees. The fish themselves are nice but I don't like the idea of having a fish tank with only one fish.

I'm with you, Mike. Been down the big mean fish road a few times in the past 30 years of fishkeeping (or so)...

The thing I HATE to see if animals taken care of poorly. Just about any cichlid can be amazing with the proper care...

Matt

Several members like the really big aggressive fish but I still believe they are in the minority so you really should post your tank pics. I for one would love to see your stock and tank pics. Been there and done that with the big tank busters. After a while it gets really old trying to find a suitable tankmate for a lone aggressive Jag, umbie or whatnot. Its in my opinion that a lot of these fish aren't meant to be housed in home aquariums.
