Cichlisoma Festae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i havent been able to get any good shots of the smaller festae lately it always swims away when i pull the camera out... the tank i have it in has lots of hiding places unlike the tank i have the male festae

this last pic 100% female. and is that the larger one? the pic right before this looks female too that you said was male, the one in your avatar. look at the dorsal and youll see the black spot protruding into the dorsal which indicates female. the males dorsals can darken to but its mood change and the stripes fade into the dorsal they dont have permanent spot like the female. when im sexing my young festae thats the first thing i look for is the spot on the dorsal versus the stripe. also females can have just as much spangling as the males but in most cases they dont and will loose spangling on the fins as they mature.

this is the BEST new ive gotten all year! lol now that you mentioned the spot protruding towards the dorsal fin i think i have two females. i have them im separate tanks right now but downstairs is this fish
