I've got stands 6 blocks high. No issue with stability.

I’ve got pieces of 2x on top of the block. My concern with 4 high was stability. I’m using 2 columns set in a foot from the end. It’s a 125 turtle tank, so it doesn’t weigh that much.

Use the standard width block not the narrow width and you should be fine. I have both and while the narrow work they do teeter a bit when placing tanks.
