I always see frozen Snakeheads sold as food in Asian markets. CKs as well. When I went to Thailand to visit relatives, my cousin cooked up a Giant Gourami. Very tastey. I've had grilled Clarias Catfish and Mantis Shrimp. Stuff you would find in the pet store. I've seen live Flowerhorns and Goldfish in Asian markets being sold as food as well.
ya i went there and in ayuthaya there was snakehead and knifefish being sold as food there. i had the snakehead.

My mom always used to tease me about cooking Hank for dinner ( my 18 in ck ). I never thought people actually did that. Kind of grosses me out a bit.

When I was in college somehow I got roomed with two Indians (non-native americans) and a Korean in a 4 person apartment. Well, I had this 75 gallon tank that had my CK that was about 12 inches long and a mottled bull head cat fish and a few other things.

I come home from class and on the dining room table is a plate with fish bones all over it. I walk a few steps past and come to an abrupt halt, turn around and go straight to the tank and start counting down my fish. Luckily my new roommates had not eaten my pets but I was worried that they thought my tank was a livewell for them to peruse for lunch!?!?!

I mean these guys kept those biscuits that you have to unwrap the can in their drawer in their bedroom. All 4 cans exploded!?!?! They put eggs in the cabinets. They had no concept of refrigeration, so how would I know if they knew my tank was not a source of food?

i can understand why and how they eat the ck's but i just never imagined that they could be a food fish. thats fkd up.

Iv'e got a nanny that looks after me after school. So one day on the way home she was telling me about what happened to one of her friends grandparents fish. Apparently the grandparents were quite old so they had someone come to their house and help them do things. The thing is that person came from a farm where they didn't have much money and she didn't understand the idea of keeping fish.So the grandparents had a 20 YEAR OLD silver arowana and the nanny that helped them out didn't get it. She kept asking why they didn't eat it because it was so big and had so much meat on it. ANYWAYS the grandparents needed to do a 100% water change so the moved the arowana into the bathtub. It was a big tank and it took a long time to refill so the grandparents went to do some stuff. Then the nanny called them for dinner. I know what youre all thinking "Oh no she didn't". SO the grandparents went to the table for dinner and asked where she had got the fish from. It turs out that the nanny had found the aro in the bathtub and thought 'oh, this must be for dinner' so she caught it, filleted it and served it up on a plate!!!!!:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA::eek::eek::eek:

ok im done crying

when i was in china they sold a 2' RTC for $2CAD in a hot pot restaurant.

they cost close to 2-300 for that size here in canada...

on a side note: has anyone ever bought live fish at a supermarket/restaurant to keep? sometimes they have some pretty unique fish that you'd never see at a fish store. i've contemplated doing so, bringing a bucket and telling them not to kill it.
