Clarias Cat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a clarias around 8/9 inches and so far he seems fine too, not as aggressive as it's made out. I'm not sure if it's a batrachus - it's mottled brown, and looks more feathery than a batrachus. It's incredibly greedy though.

At what size are they supposed to become nasty?

All the nasty ones I've ever seen have been upwards of a foot. Most nasties are the brown and white ones that come in from Singapore. Wilds are not that commonly brought in. Closest that are imported from Congo or Nigeria are the eel cats, C. Apus and less often G.Typus.

i ve kept one before the one that i had, sorryt about getting defensive earlier, but all ive had is incredible rudeness off ppl about what i say on here thinking that i no nothing, ut forget that, when i used to work full time for about a year at work, i ordered a clarias in for myself, but my tank crashed so i kept it at work, and he did great, in with bala sharks, clown loaches, and a pleurops syno, that was moved out after a time..

im sure its just hype anbout aggressiveness like oscars, they aint aggressive at all, ( well mine aint) they get beat up if anything. separate now,

samurai - yeah I've never actually seen any evidence of clarias being killers. Never seen a photo of it devouring a large fish, or reports of it murdering tankmates. I've never even seen evidence of aggression from the captive ones I have seen.

yea.. the most violent thing its ever done is tear a tail of an oscar, i duno why but every other cichlid ive ever kept it with its been fine, totally ignores, if not trying to take food out of the cichs mouth, (lol) but they have a personal vendetta against oscars, ???? like the guy said at the start of the thread, they beat up oscars

i think yours is an angolensis, rumblesushi, judging by how you've described it. pretty mean fish, get to about 14".
