did anyone had a Clarias gariepinus {Sharptooth Catfish}
or know if they can be raised in the home aquarium?

great fish, biggest of all clarias. i guy onmfk has a breeding pair.

I just started keeping one 2 days ago, still relatively small (about 20 cm...I guess that´s about 8 inches, isn´t it?)

It only feeds on live and frozen food, it avoids pellets or any artificial feedstuff.

I got it imported from and caught in Lake Malawi.

Compared to my Clarias batrachus, the marbled ones...I have been keeping 20 of them...the gariepinus is less a pet.

Is there anybody else who got one?

:)

grrrr, true monsters. Post pics. I've always wanted to keep different clarius cats, but of course, they're illegal here. Good luck with your's and post up some pics for everyone to enjoy! hehe

This pic will give this monster fish justice!

It definetively does! :drool:

Somehow it´s OK that this species is relatively or actually very rare, I am currently working on a 9000L (about 2.400 gallons, I think ?!?) indoor Pond just for big cats with optional grade up ...

...but compared to the max. size of the European Catfish (Silurus glanis) I have been waiting for...hopefully until August...a beautiful golden one :)...

...the Clarias would just be a good feeder ;)
