Classic Leos good ole P13

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome. I can appreciate a nice classic leo. I think we have all been spoiled seeing all these crazy big spot BD's and hybrids many forgot where it all started from! Lol
Man... I remember seeing wild Leos and Hens available at the local wholesaler for $200-400 or less about 15-18 years ago or so, pre-ban. Kicked myself in the arse many times for never getting any. Was always drawn to brown rays more, even back then. The insaine marbles, hystrix, yepizi, ect, that were coming in were the show stoppers for me.

Look at us, reminiscing on the good old days :) I remember the first time I saw a marbled motoro, I couldn't believe my eyes. I'll have one someday :)

Classic Leo's are what made me fall in love with rays. So simple and clean. I'm not a big fan of lots of spots
The classic Leo is what got me into rays too. Never forget the first time a saw a small tank full of them at a LFS i was amazed by them and said to myself that day that i would own some one day. Although I now own only BD and no classic Leo's I still appreciate the look of them. Back then they were £1000 a fish!!

I agree, the leo and henlei were kind of absorbed into collections as the odd ray out. Now their genes are still around as hybrids but the pure lines there aren't a lot of people breeding.

There will likely be more available in the future. I think people appreciate the pure lines and there will always be a market for them even though it dwindled for a while.
I'm a henlei nut! Breeding them is one of my greatest accomplishments.. pures will be in demand sooner than we might think!

My father was into Predators. Part of my chores were water changes and catching minnows/fish/crawfish at the local lake to feed the fishes. He had Snakeheads, walking catfish, all types of crenicichla and two male retic rays. Looking back I believe they were orbs now because of the dark eyes but that was a looong time ago. Showing my age but we used to be able to own some BAD fish here in the USA before the bans started flying. I remember homework taking hours because my wooden flip top desk was in the fish room, I would twist it so I could see the fishes swimming in the background. Such a beautiful distraction. I never really had a chance, my father made sure I was a fish junkie just like him, now I need a son so I can put him to work doing waterchanges and plumbing haha!
