Couldn'tpay me to skip modern TVto watch old stuff
I don't have an argument either direction, I'm not closed minded and biased like you clearly are. I CHOOSE not to watch old shows. Not because modern shows are superior or vice versa. I just don't have time to sit around watching a billion hours of old shows. Most of you watches these as they aired yet fault younger generations for not being born in the same era. Pretty faulty logic of you ask me. You sound exactly like your parents who tried to convince you that the music you listen to is noise and not as good as the music of their era...only you're changing targets to television. Care to take a guess at the average age on this thread? There's very few people under 30 posting. Coincident? I mean there's channels that still play these shows and most of these shows are available on dvd and online streaming. Everyone thinks THEIR era of music, TV, movies, athletes etc is superior to the next generation. You're only proving that point
"Couldn't pay me to skip modern TV to watch old stuff"
Your words do state a bias though you choose to use semantics stating otherwise. As for my "bias" you allude to; it has nothing to do with the era as you so stated. I have clearly stated in my opening comment alone,
a HUGE difference from societal norms of "the era" for my age group (graduated HS in '79), I DO NOT LIKE
The Rolling Stones, add to that the not mentioned Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, Ozzie (Black Sabbath), Jethro Tull, AC/DC, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Donovan, and many many more of the genre...
My argument was never based as an opinion about followers of music of the modern era, pro or con, but the analogy was presented to highlight the relatioship between the two eras, AND the mindset of those who think the modern media is "new" and "original".
I never supported "the era", but certain aspects of it in part (show by show as noted) and supported "the era" as pertains to Classic TV in particular in it's more FAMILY FRIENDLY STYLE vs the blatant vulgarities of today's modern shows. There is nothing closed minded about choosing not to warch something or not to listen to something AFTER becoming familiar with the artist (if you can truthfully call them that) and then choose not to continue following them for reason of content. To each their own. Such is life, and be it as it may... Whatever! Oh, sorry... that was so out of character of me.... a modern term slipped out.
To wit: (that means..."for example" but the classic form is only 5 letters vs the modern 10):
Eminem's RAP GOD... imho, Way way overboard in the atrociousness of the vugarities and references in the lyrics!! even to the sorry extent of "Luc*f*r take the wheel"...
No sir... I'm not closed minded, however, there are some shows I wish I had never seen, and some songs I wish I had never heard.
None the less... "close minded"? I don't think so. My opinions are based on having sampled the episodes and songs of the artists of the eras of my life.
Fourteen & a half years in the military, with year plus tours to Korea, Turkey, Honduras, and many shorter "stays" has exposed me to an extremely broad spectrum of the populous and the "favorites" of those younger than myself, and as noteably, those much older than myself.
Your statement simply expressed your preference of era without any substantiating support. That, my friend, is a close minded statement and contrasts greatly with my posts prior to that.
Check out Francesca Battiselli...
