I totally agree that nothing will eat poop. But shrimp, crayfish, and snails help out with left overs. A natural waste grabber is plants. You will need a lot of plants to have a not noticeable amount of waste on the bottom!

Maybe some crays that won't nip at the koi.

There's a few large, fairly docile species of crayfish... but if you're keeping your koi outdoors you're not going to be able to keep them. They all come from warm (year round) climates, our winters would kill them. Indoors is another story though...

Agree!

Now, finding plants and inverts your koi won't eat may be tricky. But really, with a koi you need some serious filtration which, in a well-designed system, will sweep the fish's waste into the biomedia to be broken down by bacteria. What kind of setup are you keeping your koi in?

yeah no sane creature eats excrement. you can look into a blue crayfish they eat detritus but no poop. do a wc and vacuum your gravel to remove it.

you should meet my turtles... my turtles love teh poo! srsly, it freaks me out...

my turtles will be swimming stacked. the top turtle drops a dookie and the turtle below gobbles it up... Or, if another turtle doesn't get it, the one that made the mess will go after/get it....

I watch my turtles chase their poo around the tank and even fight the filter intake or another turtle for it ....

worse than catfish? lol

I thought scats eat poop, hence the name. Anyways my references are thirty year old books so not sure how reliable they are. lol

My crays eat poop all the time.

Especially the little babys, they keep the tank nice and clean, eating everything that isin't breathing...

And some that were breathing too...

And some that are....
