Why not then just take the pics from that thread to the "sticky" thread and move the entire old thread into a non media area for further discussion?

i did not want to alter the original thread too much as i intended to go back to extract the information for it.

did not move the initial thread for a further discussion because there are so many topics in it that there is no way you can title the thread asides from "everything about wolf fishes".

also, it took me a good 1-2 hours just to copy all the pictures over to a new thread. editing on such a huge scale needs to be done one step at a time.

Well what's done is done, should not be that big of a deal in the first place. As long as the pics and information are saved it is all good in my book. Not sure why Tig got SO angry about it. Nothing should evoke that much emotion from a thread that was created and still will exist. LOL

it was, just fyi. i copied all the pictures over to a new thread and stuck it as i saw it's usefulness. the new thread is still open for members to continue posting their pictures. The previous thread was closed as there was a lot of discussion in a "media" thread.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=403315

There is a reason why the media lounge was formed seperate from the discussion lounge. and for that very reason i closed the first thread and copied all the pictures from that thread to a new one; to direct discussions to the discussion forum (in order to make information more organised and accessable rather than hidden in 200 pages) and to allow members to view the pictures more easily.

ps, also edited the title to reflect the message more appropriately.

why not just move the thread from teh media lounge to the discussion forum ?? I think a lot of info. valuable info. was left out during the move and still see some that could be removed. Anyways GL with this fellas :irked:

check out post #21

plus, the info WILL be accessed later on. it's just that there is WAY TOO MUCH info to be moved overnight as we want to proceed carefully.

in the meantime, i hope members can be helpful in posting their threads/posts appropriately so that such massive clean up/info sorting job doesn't need to be done again.

How about this for a compromise. Xander copies all the information he wants into a new thread, created by him, which is stickied. The original thread is left open as the OP has it. The new thread can be closed to posting and have the information added as xander sees fit and kept streamlined with a disclaimer saying something like : This is a compilation of aquired information from the site placed in this thread to streamline its availability.

The original thread MAY need clean up from time to time, its the nature of a super large thread and is an inevitable occurence.

Seems like an unnecessary waste of bandwidth, not to mention repetitive. I vote for leaving the original thread as-is, Sticky it, and slowly clean up all the off-topic discussion that has nothing to do with the fish. Any other fish-related discussion should be left in thread.

The lounge itself is the biggest waste of bandwidth LOL
Get rid of the lounge, you also lose about 75% of your member base

This solution is pretty much the same thing as what I was going to suggest:

  • Keep the old thread
  • Separate the photos from the useful information as necessary
  • Make two new threads, one for the photos and one for the info with any needed photos
So in short, I agree with Rachel on this one.

On a similar note, there are some other media lounges out there that need the same thing done to their threads, so it's good to see that someone is starting to separate out the discussion that belongs in the main forum from the media lounge.
