Cliff - Albino Wels update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi there - glad you found Cliff :)
Ask away!
I got Cliff about June of last year (2012) at about 9 inches? He's about 20 inches now. That's a 75 gallon holding tank for now.
He is a very, very lazy fish, and eats very little (which is fine with me!) (Hence his staying in the 75 for now, since he doesn't swim around, lol.)

I'm assuming his the only one in the tank? If not what are the tank mates and how big?

Yes, he's the only fish in the tank. He was fine with gars when he lived with gars, but those are now in one of the 300's.

Oh alright keep us updated with some pictures when you decide to add it in the 300 gallon with those gars.

Since our wels may be blood brothers from wes...enjoy my crappy pics aswell haha...guy never stops moving either when he comes out to play. Pic dont do justice but hes loving his new 230 to beef up in, just moved him up 3 days ago from his 125. Next tank is my 650 id like to give him solo :)

Love it - thank you for sharing!!! Yes, I honesty do think they are related.

I like how active yours is (What is his name ??) - Mine is just a LUMP - thankfully the baby is forever swimming around and is a lot more interesting to watch. (I started a thread on him, too.)
He's still in that 75 - no reason to have him in anything bigger - he doesn't move. LOL - but I have a 300 ready for when he grows more - and then I'll build a pond for them, which I've done in the past (indoors, in my plant house.) Is your 650 a tank or pond?

I dont name any of my fish especially my favs. in fear they will die...i told u i was supersticious haha. But yes the 650 is a tank i made, link for it is in my sig. Currently working on a 3,200 tank as im tired of my 12' 1700 pond/pool. Everything is also indoors so the pool is pretty humid at times. do u keep ur wells with a heater? Ive found there more active around 78 degrees. All the wels i kept unheated did not eat much and also did not fair nearly as well as this guy.

I'll check your link out - good stuff!
As for heating - they definitely are more active when warmer - when I had them in the classroom I worked at, they all had heat, but now they don't. Gotta be careful with the electric bill - so if a fish doesn't actually need heat, it doesn't get it - but keep in mind that the plant house is a plant house, and therefore is kept warm anyway. The baby is also without heat, and that doesn't change his behavior at all. For Wels, an unheated tank is more natural - obviously - but it's good to share our experiences - I also am in no hurry to get them huge fast, like most guys on here with their fish :)
I like self-built pools / ponds, and pre-fab ones, but I miss the eye to eye / face to face interaction you get in a tank.

I can relate to a high electric bill aswell...i had a couple little guys break out i
