And the methane release from permafrost melting is likley to be negated, over time, by the extra plant growth that will benefit from the newly thawed land.

So probably not a positive feedback loop.

Maybe. But you also have to take into consideration that methane is more potent at trapping infrared than carbon.

Why, because water is also a greenhouse gas? Water and carbon trap different parts of the infrared radiation. Less of one acts as a vent for the other. Increasing one of them while the other remains unchanged will increase temps.
