Cloning fish for aquaria trade

A couple of comments after reading this rambling thread:

1) There is no shortage of food in the world, it just doesn't get distributed to those who cannot pay for it, in other words the starving people.

2) Cloning will not save a species if you simply produce a bunch of genetically identical fish. In order for a species to maintain itself there must sufficient genetic diversity to allow individual animals to breed and produce outbred offspring.

1) If those people are so poor, why don't they get jobs?

2) I don't want to save the species, I just want one for my tank!

LOL

I am sure it's possible, but cloning is taboo and scientists are focusing on other things that are more profitable.

I could see it being useful for certain spectacular specimens, but not wholesale, if you wipe out the diversity you can lose everything to a single disease like whats happening to the bannana crop right now.
