Cloning the Wolly Mammoth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Guess I should have been more clear with my post.I mentioned the mammoth being sterile as possible effect of the process of bringing one back not as something that was planned or intended...and it was not an explanation for Sumo's insult lol.

Well this thread degenerated quickly.

We had such a good and intelligent debate going, too.

Sigh.

I think what is meant by tagging would be some type of band that would be attached around one of the mammoths limbs or perhaps some type of dart clipped onto a bit of its ear.The device could have some type of GPS for tracking the animal's movements.Similar to what is done with certain animals now....kind of like a Lo Jack system.

that is a very god idea i never thought of that lol

To Akuma and the others in reference to sabertooth cats:

Those cats were indeed predators. A group of animals doesn't exist for five million years and go in to drive to extinction multiple whole groups of apex predators (Phorusrhacidae and Thycalosmilidae driven extinct via competitive exclusion by Smilodontidae after the great American interchange) by being a scavenger that hasn't evolves an effective method of killing prey items.

Of course saber toothed cats and scimitar cats would have taken advantage of a dead animal if the found it just like lions, but that doesn't mean they weren't hunters.

The reason they went extinct is because they were extremely specialized predators to be able to quickly deliver a coup de grace to a very large prey items. This is why they were powerfully built, to grapple long enough to deliver the bite, then let go and let thebprey bleed out, which limited their top speed. Once their extremely large and slow prey items went extinct, they were unable to adapt and they too perished.

God that was a long post for a phone >.<

I didn't realize we had so many paleontologists on MFK. I guess Wikipedia makes you an instance expert this days with a degree and all.

you seriously don't think some on here are just huge fans of dinosaurs or just find them interesting enough to have done a lot of homework or study in the past to be well versed in this topic?

there are many experts in many areas without degrees

Impossible. To research dinosaurs you need to obtain a masters degree. Information restricted from everyone else other than simple Wikipedia pages or illegal information sharing.

Maybe; it just seemed like this thread was degenerating what with the soft in the head accusations and all.

No one in particular.

In retrospect, I certainly didn't help the situation with my comment. :banhim:
