Close call - almost lost my fire eel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I lost a Tire Track several months ago. Fed him on my way out of the house one day and when I got home he wasn't in the tank. We looked everywhere trying to find him, but to this day we still haven't found a body . Spooky weird stuff :WHOA:. I figured we'd smell him eventually, and we tried, but no luck. He literally disappeared.

Just curious, how big was he??? coz my friend had a similar experience with a smaller one which was about 4 - 5inches...

He was a little over the 6" mark.

We removed all the furniture from our living room the other day after I posted. Even checked under the rugs. No where to be found. Checked in the kitchen (next room over), still no luck. We've gone through the whole house at this point and haven't found some much as a clue to his existance.

Weird! True escape artists.

My friend did the exact same thing as you when he lost his... couldn't find it any where, was as if it just disappeared into thin air... so yeah, definitely agree they are true escape artist... actually, more like magicians. (considering they vanish)..

my peacock never bailed... but he died from diseases... :(

I just had this happen with my 15" tire track. Took my daughter trick or treating and came home to find him shriveled on the floor. put him in the water and worked some water across his gills and he came back to life. He's doing fine now. Some time ago I thought I lost a 7" tire track but low and behold after searching for a couple hours and emptying all decor from the tank he swims by in front of me. Dont know where he was hiding. Check under the gravel, Check in filters. they are masters. My big one must have jumped when I left the cover off the filter after cleaning pads. I use velcro to secure the covers so they cant just push them off.

It's been a few months since he disappeared. He's definitely not in the tank anywhere. By now he's probably made it back to his home in the wild ;P
