Came home today, ate some food, fed the fish. Noticed when I dropped some food in the Monster Loach tank, not much water movement. Checked the filters, bare. The impeller motors were hot, and couldn't be restarted. I thought I was out over $50 for two AC70's. Turned out a circuit blew and the landlord reset it while I was gone. The lights were on, but the filters never restarted. I ran them under cold water for awhile, and they restarted. Just glad my monster loach collection is intact.

Ooo thats lucky you came back sooner rather than later. How long were the filters not runing for?
a similar thing happened to the cover for my intake fell off and a snail crawled up the intake and got stuck. water was barely trickeling out the output of the filter. I had the snail for years as well too bad i lost it then

They couldn't have been down for more than eight hours, but I am glad I noticed. I would have recked two filters and killed hundreds worth of fish.

AC filters are amazingly tough. I have had a similar experience once or twice and they just keep kicking.

Glad you caught it in time.Ive noticed penguin filters dont self start every time either.emperors and whispers usually do though

my hob penguin didnt restart one time, i didnt break or anything it just didnt restart. my fluval did though so i dont worry anymore.

This seems to be a problem with AC's lately. I don't know what it is, but I've had one of mine do this 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and we haven't even had a power shortage. Weird....

Clean the intake tube and the impeller. That could be the problem.

Im a big fan of redundancy in any system. I make sure i have more than one filter/heater in any size tank. This way you have a bigger chance that your precious fish will survive a mishap when one filter or heater malfunctions.
