Hey guys, just wanted to ask; has anyone dramatically reduced bioload in a tank, then experienced cloudiness in the next few days, from what I'm assuming is bacteria starving/dying?

It's problem after problem just now arrgh

It's a mini-cycle. I deal with it from time to time if I tamper too much with the filter tubes, substrate, and/or decor during wc's. It's usually harmless and resolves within 24 hours. As always, just keep an eye on the inhabitants to make sure they're alright.

Ahhh...cheers mate, i did do a change the other day; also had to add salt recently and ich medication which I'd assumed messed with things. Don't want to do a water change either as I'm still treating for ich, need to continue the course of treatment :(

I still have much to learn!

curious, how did you reduce bio load?

typically, cloudy or milky water is do to a bacteria bloom from ammonia in the water. reducing the bio load would not do this, now reducing then increasing the bio load may.

I changed my stock, moved my Oscar out of the tank along with silver dollars; and now I just have a juvenile GT.
That shouldn't have caused this. Like I said, unless you're directly tampering with the BB, the tank is unlikely to experience a bacterial bloom "mini-cycle". Did you possibly perform a larger than usually water change without adding prime (or whatever conditioner you use)?

this should not have caused a mini cycle. the good bacteria does not live in the water but on surfaces that have oxygen available. did you reduce filtration from the tank when you moved the fish?

Changed nothing guys :(

The most recent developments were, in order:

1) Oscar and silver dollars came down with white spot, from what I suspect was the plec I added in.

2) raised temperature, added salt to treat.

3) once white spot looked gone, moved Oscar and dollars out of tank, added GT in. Temperature back down to 24°

4) GT looked to have white spot, added ich medicine as heat and salt looked to have failed.

5) noticed bloom tonight. Feel like bashing my head off the wall

First off, calm down. Your tank will be just fine. My guess is that the Ich med negatively impacted some of your BB colonies, briefly causing your tank to mini cycle. Once these colonies reestablish, your tank will be back to normal. This shouldn't take too long.
