i only have one fish in the tank.. a 4" Red Piranha.. He can't be putting out much waste cause hes barely ate anything in the past week.

Howdy,

If he was in the tank during the entire process, I assume he wasn't too happy with the water chemistry ... his appetite should come back once you have a handle on the system. How long has this been going on now?

Good luck,

Its been going for about a 1 1/2 weeks almost.. The fish looks healthy, no signs of hard breathing and his colors are fine, he's just not active.. The tank seems even more cloudy today.. Damn this is pissing me off bad.. it looks like the tank is full of fog ,not water. I wonder if i shoud do a water change or is that going to make it worse..

Howdy,

Miles has a good point. Sit it out. 1 1/2 weeks are not too long, yet. It might be a while longer before it is perfect. Change water only if the ammonia or nitrite levels go up.

well i went over to my g/f's place and took one of her sponges from her aquaclear to put into mine.. we'll see if this helps get my tank going.. hopefully... it's driving me nuts.. ph is fine, no ammonia but its a cloudy mess..

Yeah , that will help alot with the cycling process... but be patient, it will clear up!

I also just threw in 20 small feeder goldfish to help get the tank cycling.. im going to take another reading of the water parameters tonight and see whats changed since last time.

just did another water test and here is the results..

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20ppm

Its THE SAME as before!! what the heck? i dont get it.. nothing is going on in the water?
Now my fish has some little raw spot under him where he must have smacked into something. His colors are still fine but he's not that active.. i got 20 feeders in that tank and i added a sponge that has already been established with bacteria. What is going on here? i'm going insane.

I have this problem all the time because my tank is heavily planted and I'm always experimenting with fertilizer. These cloudy blooms happen to a lot of people fromm time to time. For me, when I get cloudy water, I raise my nitrates to about 15ppm (a great level for plants assuming phosphate is almost nonexistent) and things clear up in a few days. The quick solution is a HOT magnum with a micron cartridge and diatom powder ~ 30 minutes.
