My tank is 55 gallons, I rinsed and added some pink samoan sand then I added the water after that I added the salt. After adding the salt the water got very cloudy. I started the filter up and put in two maxi-jet 900 powerheads. Is it normal for the water to be cloudy at first?? Its been running since 3pm today and its still cloudy. My protein skimmer should be here tuesday and Im going to order this light next week https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12772&prodid=25123&catid=3. Theres just sand in there no live rock yet I want to wait for the water to clear up. this will be a FOWLR set-up

the water is cloudy from the salmon. why did you drop salmon in the tank?

Right... :p

It is probably dust from the sand. Ass a chumk of filter floss (pillow stuffing at a sewing store or Home Depot is cheap) to your filter & change ouot when it's clogged. that couild clear it up. Add your live rock now too.

As far as those lights, unless you are planning on adding corals, you're spending too much $$$ on lighting. You can get PC lighting for $150 or less (shipped), on Ebay. Unless you're getting the 4 bulb set. Then, it's not a bad price.

I have no idea why I saw salmon. I'm a moron. but probably from the sand. It usually takes around 24hrs for a tank to clear from adding sand.

I thought you were making a funny.

You should have mixed the salt water first. Not added it to the tank. Never add salt to the tank . Allways mix it first. The tank should clear up in a couple of days. When tou add the live rock you are going to have to remove some water. Also you are going to get a protein skimmer right? For live rock a protein skimmer is very important.

Wow, must have been really late when I typed the above. Lots of typos!

Why do I have to remove some water?? Do I put on the protein skimmer after of before tank has cycled?? I plan on adding live rock a little at a time. most funds are going to my light(200$$) and the protein skimmer(70$$). Im gonna do 10 pounds a week intill I get around 60 pounds. Is this ok??

Because the rock will displace the water. What kind of skimmer 7blighting did yo0u buy. You really can't get a decent skimmer for a 55g tank, for $70, unless you bought it used & still... Use the skimmer wyile the tank is cycling. If you're only going to add 10lbs/wk then you're going to have to wait to add fish.
