My tank is going through this as well. I don't know why. I put a store bought agent in my tank today that is supposed to clear my water, but its not doing the job. At first I thought it was the lettuce I put in for my severum to eat that was coloring the water, so I went a couple of days without lettuce. Water is still cloudy with a hue somewhere between green and white. What is the problem?

It's a 55 gallon grow out tank with a 5-6 inch clown knife, 1 gold severum about 3 inches, 3 bala sharks (3 inches each) and a 3 inch senegal bichir.

I cleaned my filter about 3 days ago, I do 33% weekly water changes and I have a filter that's good for up to a 60 gallon tank.

Green cloudiness is algae bloom, white cloudiness is bacteria bloom. Hard to say which you have.

Make sure to check your water parameters, bacteria bloom tends to coincide with high ammonia levels. How did you clean your filter? Tank water or tapwater?

I honestly don't know much about algae bloom, it's never happened to me... but what kind of lighting are you running, and for how long per day?

1) I have not set up any lighting on the fish tank. I have some, but there is so much natural light in the room during the day that its unnecessary. My ck HATES lights, so I did not set up my aquarium lights so it comes out more at night.
2) I wash the filter with tap water.
3) Are either of the two blooms you mention detrimental to my fish's health?

I think its cloudy white instead of green. It could be the wallpaper around it that makes it look a little green. From above, it looks more white.

Are my fish in danger? What can I do to correct this?

If you rinse the filter cartridges with tapwater, unless you have a well, the chloramines in the water will kill or damage your bacteria colony . This will constantly give you water quality problems. The cloudiness in itself isn't a problem but the reason for it could be . Test your water.

Ah! I do rinse my catridges with tapwater. How can I fix this?

Theres nothing you can do but just let the bacteria re-form on the cartridge. Never wash under tap water, wash in your last bucket of tank water to preserve the BB

How long has the tank been set up?

and

Do you have a master test kit...One that will,at least, test for:
Ammonia
NitrItes
and
NitrAtes

Yes Ammonia is deadly
Yes NitrItes are deadly...

I have a test strip thing.

The tank has been set up for about 6 weeks including cycling.
