heaven is my home
ok so here is the deal. i have not had cloudy water in this tank since i have set it up except of course when i add sand. i have an fx5 filled with eheim ehfisubstrat and an eheim 2217. i came back from the weekend, the lights were off all weekend and the water is cloudy. i did my normal every 3-4 day 40% water change and its still cloudy. any ideas why my water isnt crispy like it always is? the tank gets very little sunlight at all.

Stock of the tank?

New filters?

Color of cloudy water?

the stock is 7 cichla around 3-4 inches. both filters ive had on the tank for about 8 months. the water isnt green, just a whitish cloudiness. i checked the fx5 when i got home and everything is working fine. havent checked the 2217 but i dont think it would be the cause because the fx5 should do its job on its own. im baffled.

WEll put some cabon in and ur water will be crispy and smell better!!

really? someone on here told me that carbon was useless. but i will take your word because ive seen the crispiness of your tank. the thing that gets me though is that i havent used carbon and my water before this last weekend was fresh and crispy.

Once ur tank is established and cycled then ill say carbon may be over rated but never useless in my opinion.

Example: I have a FX5 on the 90 and it has kept it crispy from day one. So I do my my Friday WC's and I was stating to notice that the watsr was staying cloudy for a long period but it would finally crisp up. After a awhile the water would try to go crispy but it hold a small amount of fog. I cleaned my filiter(every month) and changed my carbon(when needed). To see if in fact if it was the carbon I didnt use any chemicals. No accu-clear, no stress coat plus, no salt, no cycle, nothing. I just turned the light off and went about my day. When I returned home that night BAM

:headbang2 EXTREAME CRISPYNESS :headbang2

The carbon was old and needed to be changed. I know alot of people on here dont use it but for me I LIVE BY IT!!!

Carbon is absolutely useless unless you are removing meds. And definitely not needed for "crispy" water. (check the "crispy" tank thread.)

Have you cleaned your filters lately?
Any chance of a short power outage/ surge?
Temp or PH change?

What are your water parameters?

Carbon helps out with the water parameters, like removing odors, discoloration, and ammonia. SO please tell me how its useless. ITs made to keep ur water crispy. Im not saying if u dont have it, ur water wont be crispy. BUT it will definitely HELP!!! Specially if you have a life and u cant do a WC everyday or for that matter every week.

CARBON HELPS OUT,POINT BLANK!!!
