If i took out that much water i would decloritnate it and let it sit for a day while i mix it. Because with that much chlorine to kill if its not completely mixed before added that much could kill all your bio..... I think to many percautions must be taken when doing such a large water change. Im sure you know all about it and can exicute it perfectly but why would you want to? smaller water changes a week will decrease the risk of losing bb. Also it reduces work , and stress on yourself about yoru tank. Why not give it a try?

yeah i understand my wcs are a lil over kill but it is what i do for stress relief. but i have always done it this way for the last couple of months and thats why this is baffling me so much. i cant figure it out. i know the fx5 is working fine so im gonna turn off the 2217 and see what happens.

Ok back on subject, lets say your filters are in fine working order, Do a Nitrite test on your tank... I am guessing you have a Nitrite spike, which needs to be taken care of ASAP. In the past i have had the same problems you are talking about, and most always was do to a Nitrite Spike... If it is spiked i would get a Biological Booster(W.O.W., Cycle, Stress Zyme, Bio-Zyme) this should help your tank cycle faster, Also if you have plants and a lack of green Algae i would get Flora Sun, or Flora Glo 2800k light to help with the plant and Algae growth. Well if i think of anything else i will post it...

did a nitrite test and its fine at 0. but i did a water change since it has got cloudy. if it was a nitrite spike would a water change make that big of a difference of the nitrite levels? i mean, wouldnt some nitrites show on the test?

No , it spikes then leaves a cloud. You could have an earlier spike and just the cloud is left behind. I find adding to many chems like cycle stress coat and all that jazz takes away clear water. What kind of chemicals or meds to you add?

oh ok.
i use seachems neutral regulator for tap water and salt occassionaly

I always had cloudy water with one large oranda in a 29 gallon...had 2 topfin 30 filters (which suck) and replaced them with an Emperor 400...still cloudy...added plants into the Emperor to help absorb the nitrates/nitrites...still cloudy...finally got a 25watt UV steralizer and BAM!!! super clear...

over stocked the 29 gallon while the 75 gallon was setting up...i always overfeed to get the oranda's/pearlscales/koi nice and big...regular water changes...never had cloudy water since...converted the 29 gallon into a feeder rescue Shubunkin Goldfish tank without a uv sterilizer...and it is cloudy...

my conclusion...if you want crispy clear water...get a UV sterilizer...

Crispy water is an art for aquarists in the hobby and is almost always the goal. To get it you have to really know what you're doing and your system including your live stock. Once you're there, there's a long list of things that can cloud your water so I'll start a list and everyone else can keep adding if they'd like to chime in...

1- over feeding

Also, someone already said what I was thinking about your problem...you may have lost power while you were gone and the filter (bacteria) crashed. The other is if you had plants n left the lights off all weekend they will usually start dying and leach more nitrates, not nitrites back into the water.

So did you get it cleared up?

sure did, back to crispiness. man i couldnt stand having that cloudy water. i did a wc changes the other day and the next day it was all cleared up. im still not sure what it was. i guess it was a nitrite spike. heres a vid i took after it cleared up. the mh lights make it look real blue, not liking it too much. gonna have to change em out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvkDLJL0zRM
