Cloudy water with constant high ammonia, FED UP

water changes as well? Or no?
I'm not trying to seem like I am second guessing anyone, I just want to make sure I'm getting it right. I have had tanks my entire life and never had issues like this before.

Yeah I'd keep doing the water changes if ammonia is present. I've quarantined rare loricariids with daily water changes (50%) and no filtration at all. Kind of a pita to to it that way but I found a fish I wanted and had to have it even though I wasn't prepared.

Sounds like something caused your tank to cycle, or at least mini cycle again. Even if the system has been setup for 6 weeks, it's still very immature and fragile. Stability takes the guesswork out of the equation and cycle your tank with stock quickly and safely.

I would only add dechlor and something like ammo-lock.

quick fixes in a bottle like Easybalance that claim to bring your tank into balance seldom work.

they are not a replacement for good tank management.

you will get your tank back in check, probably quicker rather than later as you have readable nitrite already, and as others have mentioned 6 weeks is enough time for the tank to be fully cycled already.

as far as feeding the eel goes, just go sparingly and probably every other day for the next week. he won't starve getting fed this way for a week.

it will help your water quality and make it such that your bacteria will be able to handle the ammonia/nitrite in the tank and get things to a zero level.

Something that was also brought to my attention is that my tap water has bad KH, which kind of makes sense because at times I have a hard time regulating the PH, would this be a possibility. And if that is the case how do I go about regulating a problem like that?

I am with 12 volt man here. The water changes will keep on top of ammonia and ammo lock will lock what little does remain until the bacteria can get established and break it down.

You're already showing a nitrite rise so you are only a few weeks away from fully cycled if it was a simple case of uncycled tank.

Stability works as advertised. I'm 12 for 12 using it on everything from my first salt system some 15 years ago to my most recent SA/CE community.

Can he get his tank back on track without it? Possibly, but he already has stock in the tank being subjected to at worst, severe ammonia swings or at best constant stress from water changes. For the health of the fishes sake things need to happen quickly. Which is why I recommend Stabilty.

Possibly! I 100% know for a fact it can be saved as it has not gone off track tbh, its 6 weeks old so cycling about right...... you make it sound like the only hope comes in a bottle.

Some good water keeping is all that is needed..... save the extra £££.

No worries, just looking for the best option for my fish. If it's a hassle to me, fine, I've been hassled for the past 2 weeks with this so it's nothing new to me. As long as it's only 1 out of 3 giving me a hard time I'll manage (although the puffer is a PITA right now), just trying to find the best over all solution to keep them alive without having to start over again.

Im a water change fanatic and obviously good husbandry is always the best for fish related issues, but Stabilty is cheap, easy to use and is proven to work. It's in the fishes best interest to get the system stabilized quickly and that's what this does. Without it, she can continue doing water changes every day or so and measuring water parameters as the tank finishes it's cycle. Nothing wrong with that approach either, other than it could take a bit longer, but it will eventually finish it's cycle....

Id spend the 9 bucks and get it over with. I'm not an advocate of adding things to my aquarium water unless I absolutely have to either, including meds, but this is just a very easy product to use and I've use it with great success. Thats all I'm saying. It's not the only hope, just quickest and most user friendly IMO.

Just my experience and 2c
