Clown Knife growth rate? Slow down? Age?

my pair of royal clownknifefish are 7 years old and 38" long. they eat live lampam fish and killi catfish!

nope i havent had the heart to replace the paima after the last one died! just waiting for the tank to empty out + a future expansion of the pond. the more space the better! i wana be fully equipt this time round. plus im gona get a pair of pimas since they do better in schools wen young!

I had good luck with 3 growing up together thy seemed to do better eating with the competition. However my Wallago leerii female ate the smallest one (33"). I then found that although the same size the 2 remaining fight at times and since they are both 72" long now I am scared they are going to break the glass when they have a fight.

Your expanded pond sounds ideal..good luck with the pimas when you get them.

I threw my 17 inch CKF into my pond sometime last year. He went through a phase where all he did was hide underneath my driftwood. This went on for weeks, maybe even months: I didn't feed it, didn't mind it--if it chose to starve itself to death, that would be its choice, I thought to myself.

I was almost gonna net it out and bring it to the LFS when all of a sudden, he zips out and starts swimming around the pond 24/7, I guess he suddenly realize he's not a baby anymore. Never hides in the driftwood now. Sometimes, I'd have to gently move it away when I'm target feeding my ray.

Now, he chows down frozen fish as a big as 5". Huge appetite. Once I start feeding the others, he goes into this hyper swim mode, where he swims around the pond at a tremendous speed until I feed it with my tongs.

I've decided to keep it...but nearly impossible to measure it though...
