ive had clown loaches and frontosa together. as long as the clown loaches are big enough to not fit in the fronts mouth, it should be fine

i second that!!! :)

Loaches don't like hard water
maybe so but, i had a clown loach's in one of my African c.tank and they were doing fine,i bought them when they were about 2-3'' six years later i gave them to my friend, they do tolerate African cichlid life style.

Wow.. I have always read the contrary...

Sound like some hardy fish you had... Guess each fish can survive in different ranges. Were they stunted or change any behavior?

I don't believe the Loaches will be happy in the long run. I just moved my loaches out of my frontosa tank due to the higher PH. They did seem fine with the fronts but years ago I lost a whole tank of Loaches and they too were kept with Fronts in a high PH. I didn't make the connection until years later when I tried it again. I would just play it safe and put the loaches in a tank with a normal PH.

yep, got a similar arrangement going myself. if they can both tolerate the same kinda water then its possible. dont worry too much about fronts going after smaller clowns. as long as you provide some rocks and hiding spaces, the loaches will be able to keep the fronts at a distance. good luck.

mkaii. I have 7 big caves and several of smal caves.
So now all the fish actually have his one cave.

When i buy clown or tropehus morrii i will go over to a 540 liters. and later bigger aqurium when they gett older and bigger.

That does not mean your experience ultimately applies and prevails over everyone else. Check the KH and GH. Both variables are far more important than pH. African rift lake cichlids, to your knowledge, prefer hard water but do clown loaches tolerate the high KH and GH as Ewurm had disputed earlier? You can check loach forum for disputed water conditions and how the clown loaches reacted in many cases involving them with these cichlids.
