Clown loach prices

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Giant CL have been available for many years, but it's a game of supply and demand, with the largest/best fish generally going to those who are willing to pay the most. I recall several yrs ago when an associate of mine called me about a large group of monster sized CL's arriving in Singapore, in case I was interested. Within hours of their arrival half were already sold.

Also keep in mind that how these giants look, among other things is primarily based on collection location. The large CL's collected in Sumatra are quite pale & washed out compared to those in Kalimantan. Their genetics are different, as are their overall look.

It must be new that large cL suddenly become available in your region. I’ve kept cL for decades and have only seen 12” cL once in store. Color of giant cL I’ve seen tend to be washed out, but the ones OP has are keeping the intense color of the youngsters. I’m seriously wonder if they are growth hormone induced giants.

I went to a few places and picked out the colorful ones. Most of the 10-12" ones I saw were very pale.

Giant CL may be more available in Asia and Canada, where they are popular companion fish to Asian arrowana. Not so in my region of US where Asian arrow are illegal. As far as I know, unless someone sell their overgrown CL, giant CL are not supplied by Florida nor imported from Asia in my region.

My 10 year old CL weren't as intensely colored as juvenile CL, and sometime they exhibited color fading change.

It’s amazing that you can pick out giant CLs from several places in NY. What stores are they. None of the places from Jersey to Maryland carry giant CLs for a long time.

Half year ago just about all of the Chinese owned LFS in NYC had them. Each of them only brought in 2-4 Loaches. I drove to mutiple shops to cherry pick the colorful ones.

I waited 10 plus years and was finally able to get my 4 12incers one is probably closer to and that’s from wholesalers they have been very difficult for me to obtain I’ve seen some for sale up north and way out west but no one would ship which I don’t blame ... I’ll post a pic of the boxes I got my loaches in .. each box had 1 clown

This is what I expected as giant CL are Asian favorite fish. I’m wondering how they can safely ship them in bags with giant spines.

They couodnt pack 2 fishes into 1 box?

Considering the inside dimensions of those boxes, with bags of water/air, and the value of a 12" clown loach, I would have only shipped one 12" er per box as well. Better safe than sorry.
