Clown Loach Question..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree that getting some dithers will help. A school of smaller mid-swimming fish will help to bring the clown loaches out more.
Also, arrange caves and other hiding spots in a way that you can see into them... just so you can keep an eye on them.

Good deal. :)

yea thats my lil brother there chiming in lol.. and as he stated I do have a 125. & as soon as I upgrade it ill be basicly movin the 55's setup into it.. basicly swappim around. cant move them yet my pbass only see them as a tasty treat..ha

sooo, what are some ideas for my dithers? as of now, the tank holds a 12count school of congo tetras @2"+- ,6neons, 2native mosquitos fish, 1adult 6juvy bristle nose, 3cory cats, and the 4cl's....my filtration is stable and good as of now, but I dont want to overload, im runnin two penguin 350's and also run a 46" buble wand on the back glass just for more airiation and asthetics lol.. what are my options and how many dithers??

let me rephrase, I meant what are some ideas and how many would u recomend, rather then what are my options lol.. im always open to ideas and love the feed back from previous experiences as well as new ideas..

yea.see thats why I was confused.. I figured I had the wrong idea on dithers lol.. and I avg the temps on their tank @ aroumd 79-82 with my rooms air temp fluctuations..

Try upping the heat to 84-86. The other fish might not like it too high though (try 84 first) I have found clown loaches seem to do much better with temps in that range. I do cool them down a bit in the winter to save electricity. I believe their natural habitat gets up to 90 degrees, and they're almost always wild caught fish.

well with all my bn plecos in there,u sure they will be comfy at that temp? ive ways heard they dont like warm temps that high.. other then then bn I dont see an issue. I may bump the heater just a bit n just see how things go.

No, I don't think the BN would like it too much. This is why I think clown loaches do best in a species tank where you can design it specifically around them. Lots of flow, warm temps, lots of O2, and no competition for food--besides maybe a few dithers. I've actually found if you keep them in big enough groups you don't need dithers.

x2

.....to which I'll add I had no problem growing out healthy active CL's at year round temps of 81-82F. BN's do fine at that temp, I just preferred not to keep any with my shoal of CL's. (it was a 125 species only tank)
