Clown loach sick for 3 weeks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok, i was reading up on it - no lesions or any of that.... You think I should keep it in the 10 or move it to the 30 where it would have more room and then maybe it wouldn't have to keep making such a tight turn.

Perhaps in his uncoordinated state, he bumped into the tank side and hurt his back? I would perhaps put him in the larger tank, especially if he's having a hard time steering himself around.

Good point....he does run into the corners, rocks, filter...well everything. He doesn't have any brakes. Occasionally he can glide to the bottom but most of the time its a hit. The curve is closer to the tail area though, but Im still think a bigger area would allow him room to broaden his circle. He's about 3.5 to 4 in long.

Update: Loach WAS doing very good, swimming completely upright and better able to control where it was going. Still bumping things but not as bad. I had treated the tank with a fungus cure and it seemed to help a great deal. Was planning to move him back into the 55 gal today. Then went to look for him earlier and found he had jumped out of the tank, though a 2 in slot in the back. I don't know how long he was out. Upper side was hard but bottom was still soft - no signs of life. But I couldn't let him go so I held him in the tank and just moved him back and forth (like I seen on TV) to see if anything happen. I saw his mouth move, so I kept it up. He's breathing now, but just laying on the bottom. So we're nursing again. Any suggestion this time, I know cover the hole.

Just add an airstone or 2 & keep checking on him & moving water over his gills every few minutes until he gets to swimming again. If he makes it, just keep your treatment going (sounds like it was working) & keep an eye out for stress-related illnesses like Ick after his traumatic experience.

bro my little guy started to act up to like 3 days ago. lost his nice colors and every thing.... good luck

Loaches are very sensitive & generally come from the LFS with plenty of bugs in them. It happens to plenty of Loach keepers, so don't lose the Loach faith!

I haven't, we had just had him for a couple of years and both of us loved to watch his craziness. :) We have more loaches but he just stood out. He was mine and my husband's favorite. But we are still loach fans!!
