Not positive why but at work we used to get 2"-3" ones as "medium" and sold them for around $10, out of nowhere a few months ago the "mediums" were about an 1"-1.5" and we have to sell them for the same price. Personally I just wait until they go on sale at Petsmart for $4.50. Sucks I got 3 more on sale at about 2" each and the first shipment after the sale they're 3"..

My petsmart sells 2"-3" for $9-$10 and they were real cheap on sale though like $4, maybe even less.
tbh if you wait until spring prices will probably drop. Same with a lot of fish the availability goes up and breeding starts. around hear i've seen ones around an inch going for 5 bucks at specks.

i agree they are expensive, i got my school from a guy who was getting out of the hobby, extremely lucky.
