Clown loaches with a pike?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The best time to get clowns and pikes together is young when clowns are 3x the size of the pikes. I have tried introducing clowns with my crench sp. cobra and she goes absolutely ape****....guess she considers them some sort of candy cane.

Last try was 3 big loaches (4-5") she was maybe 10" at the time and I had a makeshift tank divider I made out of plexi. Well she crashed through it and I just about went swimming to save the clowns.

Not a fun way to blow my money.

wow I can picture that! hope you got em out ok...

well for mine I'm still monitoring the situation. so far so good, but the pike is still only 4" or so. over the long term I will remove the clowns methinks.

Yeah, should be fine. I've never had any problems keeping pikes with Clown Loaches, so you shouldn't either. Just keep them in a proper size ratio...ie the loach at least half the size of the pike or large. The pikes will grow faster, but the loaches will be able to keep up.

Yes a pike would look awesome in that planted setup.
